Newport Art Museum has show their support to us in many ways over the years. Downtown Designs has collaborated with NAM on various art projects, workshops, and community events. (Such as weaving workshops, WET paint, Mini Exhibtions, group tours, and artist lectures/community meetings).
We've had the pleasure of hosting East Bay Met School students for their internships for the past 8 years. Students act as assistance to the artists and learn the ins an out of a local gallery with a retail shop. These students have also taught art classes to the community. We're happy to help the next generation of local talent.
We are grateful for our neighbors at MLK preschool for reaching out, we have so much fun having the kids come create art with us.
WE have teamed up with students from just across the street at Thompson Middle School for 8 years now. Check out art in the park, classes in our studio, and some amazing submissions to a few of our exhibitions.
Downtown Designs has worked with its sister studios (Out of the Box & Sunlight Studios) with the JAC's Director of Curation to curate exhibitions featuring outsider artists. Many of the studio artist have been featured in these shows. Thanks to the JAC for the use of their kiln and glazes! We now have a passion for pottery, hand built in our studio and fired in theirs!
Downtown Designs has hosted Newport String micro concerts the past two years.
This Local Comic shop has monthly mini exhibitions featured in their display windows, our studio has curated a handful of shows featuring the works of our studio artists. Natasha Colon has appeared on ART MATTERS, a monthly art show hosted by Wayne Quackinbush, of Annex Comics.
Downtown design studio artists have an ongoing commission with a favorite vintage clothing store on Broadway to make upcycled paper shopping bags.
